🏠 Our Story: How NCIHA Began

Established in 1977, the North Carolina Indian Housing Authority (NCIHA) was created by the State Legislature under Section 157-66 of the N.C. General Statutes. Our mission is simple yet powerful:
To provide safe, affordable housing for low-income Native American individuals and families across North Carolina.

NCIHA holds statewide jurisdiction, ensuring support for tribal communities throughout the state. Still, to honor local governance, we only offer assistance in areas not already served by a city, county, or regional housing authority—unless those local agencies adopt a resolution allowing NCIHA to help within their jurisdiction.

For nearly five decades, we’ve remained committed to strengthening tribal communities—one home, one family, and one generation at a time.
