About the NCIHA

Established in 1977, the North Carolina Indian Housing Authority (NCIHA) was created by the State Legislature under Section 157-66 of the N.C. General Statutes. Our mission is simple yet powerful:
To provide safe, affordable housing for low-income individuals and families across North Carolina.

NCIHA holds statewide jurisdiction, ensuring support for tribal communities throughout the state. Still, to honor local governance, we only offer assistance in areas not already served by a city, county, or regional housing authority—unless those local agencies adopt a resolution allowing NCIHA to help within their jurisdiction.

For nearly five decades, the NCIHA has been dedicated to bringing affordable home ownership and affordable rentals to qualified and deserving families. We remain committed to strengthening tribal communities—one home, one family, and one generation at a time.
